OUR MISSION
Preserve Sierra Madre is an advocacy coalition of Sierra Madre residents dedicated to preserving the unique and eclectic character of our village in the Foothills with its exceptional quality of life and magnificent natural resources.
Preserve Sierra Madre is not anti-development. In fact, it encourages and supports responsible development that complies with the goals of the City’s General Plan and building codes and is
of appropriate scale. We have all seen firsthand, in Arcadia, what can happen to neighborhoods under a development free-for-all. That is why we have worked hard to prevent over-development and mansionization and to protect our historic properties and open spaces.
Whether you have lived in Sierra Madre all your life or just for a few years, once you have experienced our charming downtown, the range of homes, the Canyon and its trails giving access to the San Gabriels, you cherish living here and want to preserve its distinctive character.
Preserve Sierra Madre seeks to have a constructive relationship with members of the City Council and with the City Manager and his staff. Coalition members attend Planning Commission and City Council Meetings and speak up to preserve the spirit of our special place. Preserve Sierra Madre has contributed to the adoption of an intelligent General Plan Update, to sensible Building Code Changes, and to lowering the maximum allowable floor area, among other accomplishments.
Preserve Sierra Madre has a modest organizational structure. It has a steering committee with a chair. It is not a membership organization but does have a mailing list of concerned citizens to whom it sends out email updates.
